08/10/2004--I've been learning a great deal about building a website. I've
used Microsoft's FrontPage to build this site exclusively and I've found
the software to be fairly easy to use. The only drawback I've
found so far is that FrontPage requires "extensions" to be
loaded on the web server where the site resides. If your server is
Unix-based you won't get all the functionality of FrontPage, like
ready-made search forms and web counters. There are ways around
that though...
I
found that you can get a search form added to your site through Google
for free. They post the html code you need right
here. My next project is to find a free web counter. I'd
like to find one that doesn't require an advertisement, but that doesn't
look hopeful unless I buy the code from someone.
The
last hurdle is space. Unfortunately, my ISP only provides me with
5 megabytes of space for the site so I'll likely have to pony up some
jack when I start to add all the pics. Oh well, it's only money!
If
you'd like to discuss website development, feel free to email me.
Update
-- I've found a nice counter that costs nothing unless I get more than
5000 visitors in a month. I should be golden, unless you guys just
really like reading the same stuff over and over...
